Five Hyundai A-League inclusions for Caltex Socceroos

Head Coach Graham Arnold will continue to cast a wide net in the Caltex Socceroos' forthcoming fixtures, offering additional opportunities to Hyundai A-League stars.

Arnold has named Western Sydney Wanderers defender Josh Risdon in his squad to face Korea Republic on Saturday, November 17, while providing train-on places for four other Hyundai A-League stars.

Thomas Deng (Melbourne Victory), Rhyan Grant (Sydney FC), Craig Goodwin (Adelaide United), and Dimitri Petratos (Newcastle Jets) will all get the opportunity to impress ahead of Arnold's next squad announcement, on November 18, for the clash with Lebanon on November 20.

That allows Arnold to build on his already expansive selection process, having called up a total of 39 players over the course of September, October and November.

“We made some great progress in Turkey in September, as well as in the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait last month,” Arnold said.

“However, this window will be exceptionally important for us as we have only had 15 days to work together as a team on the training pitch. In training, and in our friendlies against Korea Republic and Lebanon, we will be looking to introduce more players to the Socceroos system and reward a number of locally based players for their performances in the Hyundai A-League and FFA Cup.”

Western Sydney's Risdon retains his place in the squad having helped the Caltex Socceroos record a convincing 4-0 victory over Kuwait in their last friendly.

But it is the domestic form of Goodwin which has earned him a place in the squad, with a stunning brace in Adelaide United's FFA Cup Final triumph complemented by three Hyundai A-League goals.

Newcastle Jets midfielder Petratos has also opened his account already this season, but has been unable to steer his side to their first victory of the season.

Their victorious Hyundai A-League 2017/18 Grand Final opponents Melbourne Victory inflicted their latest defeat, with fellow train-on call-up Deng keeping the Jets frontline quiet last time out with a commanding defensive display.

Sydney FC defender Grant completes the list as he looks to earn a Caltex Socceroos debut after helping his side concede just the one goal in 270 minutes of Hyundai A-League action this season.

The Hyundai A-League's influence certainly does not stop there, with all but three players in the squad having developed in the Australian domestic set-up.
