Ansell out for six weeks

Melbourne Victory defender Nick Ansell is set to miss the run to the finals, ruled out for six-eight weeks with a groin injury.

Melbourne Victory defender Nick Ansell is set to miss the run to the finals, ruled out for six-eight weeks with a groin injury.

Scans on the 19-year-old revealed Ansell has suffered an "avulsion fracture to his left adductor longus", which occurs when the tendon pulls part of its bone attachment away.

Victory boss Ange Postecoglou said it was a blow for his side and the teenager.

“Obviously this is disappointing as Nick has been really good for us since he made his debut back in Round 11 against Brisbane Roar," Postecoglou said.

“It-s always hard for those guys who didn-t have the benefit of a full pre-season to get through an entire campaign unscathed and unfortunately that-s the case with Nick,” Postecoglou added.

However, Ansell does not require surgery and Victory are hopeful their fullback will be available for the finals campaign.
