After helping Adelaide United to a superb 2-1 win over City on Thursday night, Reds midfielder James Holland is set to leave the club, according to United coach Gui Amor.
Holland, who put in a man of the match shift in the sensational win on Thursday night, was asked about media speculation regarding his future.
When asked by to Fox Sports whether he’d be in Sydney next week to face the Sky Blues in Round 16, his answer was non-committal.
“I’m not sure… we’ll have to wait and see,” Holland said.
However, Reds coach Gui Amor told reporters later Holland was off in the window to the Chinese Super League, though he wasn't sure if a new deal had been signed.
"Yes, he goes tomorrow or after tomorrow.
"The market is open now and this possibility is open and he goes to China.
"I don't know if he signed or not signed in this moment, but I know that he goes," Amor reportedly said when asked about his star midfielder.
As for the win and his performance, the Caltex Socceroo said United were able to exploit City’s structure, with him in particular able to play a more offensive role in exploiting City's attacking set up.
“We know Melbourne play a high line and high-risk football, so those late runs sometimes their midfield doesn’t track those runs," said Holland.
“We tried to force the issue a little bit and in the end we got away with it.
“It was well deserved by the boys. We’ve had so many games where we’ve given it away late.
“We have so much quality in this team and this season we haven’t exactly shown it.
“And finally we win one late.”
