Adelaide United v Western Sydney Wanderers: match preview

Once the Christmas meals have been digested and the presents have been unwrapped, it will be time to get back into a feast of Hyundai A-League football, starting with a Friday night cracker in Adelaide.

Although festive cheer may have been in short supply for both of these clubs given their results prior to Christmas.

While the Reds are in fifth spot on the ladder heading towards the New Year, they were humbled 1-0 by Central Coast Mariners last Sunday.

Gertjan Verbeek was furious with his players and his words are sure to be ringing in their ears heading into this one.

Despite taking a late lead against Western United FC in their last outing, the Wanderers had to settle for 1-1 draw to extend the Red and Black's winless run to six matches.

Only Melbourne Victory (nine) have dropped more competition points from winning positions this Hyundai A-League season than Markus Babbel’s side (eight).
