Just 10 rounds left in the Hyundai A-League. Who'll make the six? Who'll win the Premiership? Who'll take derby honours? Here are 10 massive games in the lead up to the Finals Series.
Victory v Wanderers: Round 18
These two played out one of the games of the season at Wanderland earlier this season and another ripper is on the cards in this one. Berisha, Finkler and Barbarouses up against Bridge, Nichols and Castelen…this will be a huge occasion at Etihad this weekend.
Victory may be defending champions but the Wanderers are making all the right moves to take their crown come the end of the season. If Victory has designs on chasing Tony Popovic’s side down, they can’t afford to lose here.
City v Victory: Round 19
There’s nothing like a Melbourne Derby to set pulses racing and with these two near the top of the Hyundai A-League ladder, this one could be the best yet.
So many interesting sub-plots and so much attacking talent on show for the full house at AAMI Park to sink their teeth into.
City’s Fornaroli and Victory star Berisha are neck-and-neck in the race for the golden boot too so. This will be epic!
Victory v Adelaide: Round 20
Just seven days after their derby, Victory faces another massive rival when the in-form Reds head to Melbourne.
These two have been involved in some pulsating encounters in the past and there’s likely to be a few more talking points when this one is done.
Sydney FC v Wanderers: Round 20
The final Sydney derby of the season and what a clash it promises to be. The Sky Blues have dominated recent clashes – unbeaten in the last six – but the boys from Western Sydney are hell-bent on reversing the rot.
More than 40,000 fans, massive amounts of colour and noise and 90 minutes of epic drama! What’s not to get excited about? This is the biggest day in Sydney's sporting calendar.
Victory v Sydney FC: Round 21
Something huge always happens when these long-standing foes go head-to-head. Both clubs will be in the middle of gruelling ACL campaigns when this fixture comes around so three points will be paramount.
Will Arnie be able to end his winless run head-to-head against Kevin Muscat at the seventh attempt?
Mariners v Jets: Round 21
Local bragging rights are always ensure this is always a fiercely-contested fixture.
It could also turn out to be a vital three points for both clubs as they try to move away from the foot of the ladder and avoid the dreaded wooden spoon.
And with Garcia and Nordstrand on the park, this ensures there's a dash of international quality too.
Roar v Wanderers: Round 22
Coaches John Aloisi and Tony Popovic are old mates but would love nothing more than to get one over each other.
It’s one win apiece for the season so far and with these sides the current Hyundai A-League’s top-two, this clash could well go a long way to deciding the destination of the Premiers’ Plate.
Reds v City: Round 23
These two outfits love to play open, expansive football which should ensure a cracking contest with plenty of goalmouth action.
With players swapping between the two clubs during the January transfer window – Stefan Mauk heading to Adelaide with Osama Malik going the other way – there is likely to be a bit of extra spice when they meet at Coopers Stadium.
Victory v Roar: Round 27
The finals are likely to come a week early for these two who could well be fighting for the Premiers’ Plate by the time kick-off comes around at AAMI Park.
This promises to be a final round classic and it’s always thrilling when old team-mates Berisha and Broich come face-to-face. What a chance to perhaps get an early psychological advantage before the finals for one of these sides.
Sydney FC v Glory: Round 27
If Glory can maintain their current form, there’s a good chance they’ll be right in the mix for a finals berth come the end of the regular season.
This could turn out to be a winner-takes-all battle for a top six berth in the very last match of the very last round of the regular season.
