Super-sub Carney wins dramatic Big Blue for Sydney FC

David Carney produced a stunning two-goal cameo to fire Sydney FC to a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Melbourne Victory at Allianz Stadium on Saturday night.

Introduced on the hour, the former Caltex Socceroos winger immediately cancelled out Mitch Austin’s opener before netting a late winner to preserve Sydney’s perfect record.

Victory dominated the first-half and earned a deserved lead through Austin just prior to half-time after Besart Berisha earlier fluffed a penalty.

Despite conceding their first goal of the season, the Sky Blues regrouped at half-time to make it five straight victories courtesy of Carney’s brace.

Sydney’s defence switched off and allowed Marco Rojas to reach Lawrence Thomas’ goal-kick before it ran out of play, with the Kiwi winger pulling a first-time pass back for Austin to bundle home.

1-1 Sydney: David Carney, 63’

Just moments after entering the match, Carney brought down Alex Brosque’s hooked cross and stabbed the equaliser into the far bottom corner.

2-1 Sydney: David Carney, 78’

Carney played Rhyan Grant in behind before coolly first-timing the fullback’s return pass into the bottom corner.
