Lethal Victory extend Wanderers’ winless run

Melbourne Victory’s attacking riches made the difference in consigning Western Sydney Wanderers to a 3-0 defeat at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night.

Jai Ingham and debutant Max Beister combined for two goals off the bench as the hosts stretched Wanderers’ winless run to four matches.

Tony Popovic’s side started the brighter but found themselves behind after 26 minutes when a pair of defensive errors gifted Oliver Bozanic the opener.

Victory doubled their advantage through an athletic Ingham header in the 65th minute, before fellow substitute Beister sealed Victory’s third win of the season shortly before full-time.

HIGHLIGHTS: Victory v Wanderers

1-0 Victory: Oliver Bozanic, 26’

Andrew Redmayne did well to keep out a stinging Fahid Ben Khalfallah shot but Aritz Borda compounded a defensive turnonver with a miscued clearance, allowing Besart Berisha to fire the ball across goal for Bozanic tap-in.

2-0 Victory: Jai Ingham, 65’

Just minutes after entering the match, substitute winger Jai Ingham rose high over Jack Clisby to athletically nod in James Troisi’s far-post cross.

3-0 Victory: Max Beister, 85’

Ingham turned provider this time, dribbling from the left wing to the byline and finding debutant Beister for a simple finish from the cutback.

Western Sydney had only themselves to blame for the opening goal as a turnover in playing out from the back, compounded by Artiz Borda’s miskick, undid all of their early dominance.
