The Queensland Roar have signed talented local youngster Tom Oar to a three-year deal.
The left midfielder comes to the Roar straight out of the Queensland Academy of Sport after learning his trade with Gold Coast club Palm Beach.
Roar coach Frank Farina believes Oar is one of the most promising youngsters to come out of Queensland for a long time, but he remains unsure as to how much the 16-year-old will be able to provide the team in his first year in the Hyundai A-League.
"Tom is a good young player with a lot of potential and talent and how he goes in his first season in the Hyundai A-League will be in his own hands," Farina said.
"He's only 16, which is actually quite frightening when you think about it, but he's someone that I think can do something for the club."
"He has a lot of talent, can take players on and score goals, but whether that will translate to the top-flight in his first season, we don't know yet - that is something we'll have to just nurture and wait to see."
With local players Michael Zullo and Robbie Kruse impressing at the Roar last season, Farina believes Queensland produces plenty of quality young talent and that Oar is no exception.
"I've always maintained, even when I was up here years ago with the Brisbane Strikers, that Queensland is producing good young players," Farina said.
"You just have to give them the opportunity and the chance to do well - we hope that is going to be the case with Tom."
