Perth Glory has captured its second win of the season with a 1-0 victory over the New Zealand Knights in their Hyundai A-League clash at North Harbour Stadium in Auckland on Thursday.
Glory skipper Jamie Harnwell was the hero for the visitors, his 67th minute goal proving the difference in a match that looked headed for a draw.
The visitors were lucky not to trail at half-time after a dazzling opening half performance from the Knights saw them pepper the Perth goal from all angles.
Zenon Caravella was inspirational for New Zealand, feeding his strikers all night with deft crosses, which baffled the Glory defence.
And while striker Sean Devine and midfielder Joshua Rose were unable to find the back of the net, they kept the crowd on the edge of their seats.
Rose's first opportunity came in the 12th minute but his attempt sailed over the crossbar.
New Zealand goalkeeper Glen Moss had an uneventful first half, but was challenged late in the term when Naum Sekulovski had a clear shot at goal. Moss, making his Hyundai A-League debut, stayed cool under pressure and pulled off an impressive save.
Perth stepped up a notch in the second half and both teams had a number of unsuccessful shots at goal before Harnwell broke the deadlock.
The Knights tried desperately to find an equaliser, but Perth was able to withstand the onslaught to record the win.
