Perth Glory have destroyed a depleted Newcastle Jets side 5-1 with a devastating performance in their Hyundai A-League clash at Newcastle.

Glory coach Steve McMahon started Damian Mori in place of struggling import striker Brian Deane, and the veteran repaid his boss with goals in both halves.

Captain Jamie Harnwell, season leading scorer Bobby Despotovski and substitute Naum Sekulovski added further goals for the visitors, while Jets subsitute Franco Parisi scored the hosts' lone goal.

Newcastle went in without the injured Ante Milicic (hamstring) and Richard Johnson (corked thigh), as well as the suspended Nick Carle and fullback Jade North, who was on Socceroo duty.

Perth had the game's first real chance, Mori getting his head to a corner to force a brilliant reflex save from Jets goalkeeper Liam Reddy.

The Jets then came within a whisker of scoring the opener after 16 minutes when a cross from James Monie found a charging Labinot Haliti, but Jason Petkovic managed to get a hand to Haliti's looping header.

But the visitors soon took control of the game, with Adrian Caceres having a claim for a penalty turned down before Stephen McMahon swerved a strong shot wide of the posts.

The opener came when Despotovski knocked back a lobbed pass from fullback Scott Miller, and a swooping Mori crashed the ball into the net after 33 minutes.

Harnwell made it 2-0 in the first minute after the break, receiving a neat cross from Hiroyuki Ishida and converting a simple tap-in after his initial header was blocked by Reddy.

Despotovski headed home the third after a great cross from Jamie Coyne, before making an audacious attempt to chip Reddy from the left wing, but the Jets' keeper was able to tap the ball over the bar.

But Mori continued the thrashing, leaping high to knock in a header after another slick cross from Ishida to make it 4-0.

Parisi pulled one back for the hosts, calmly slotting past Petkovic after being put through by Haliti, before Glory sub Sekulovski slammed a great shot into the top right corner of the net only moments after taking the field.

Both teams had attempts strike the post in the final minutes as the goals threatened to keep coming, but the Jets will be desperate to have their stars back after the thrashing.
